According to the Simi Valley Acorn article published February 13, 2009 Simi Valley Unified School District is planning to cut 170 TEACHING JOBS. That is 17% of the teaching force in Simi Valley. 112 TEACHING POSITIONS to be cut are in elementary grades from K-3rd.
This is the part that gets me: When Superintendent Kathryn Scroggin was asked to consider cuts in athletics by School Board member Jeanne Davis, Scroggins response was ; NO NEIGHBORING SCHOOL DISTRICT IS CONSIDERING DOING AWAY WITH SPORTS AND SIMI VALLEY HAS NO PLANS TO ELIMINATE ANY SPORTS.
Is this person CRAZY! Your largest percentage cut is elementary teaching positions. OUR FUTURE !!!!!!!!!!!!
Kathryn Scoggin DID YOU KNOW only 1% of High School athletes will ever turn Professional! READ THIS STUDY

Kathryn Scoggin and the rest of the Simi Valley Unified School District, DID YOU KNOW?
100% of our ELEMENTARY CHILDREN will need:
MATH to balance there check books
READING if you haven’t noticed WORDS are everywhere
HISTORY kids need to learn from our past mistakes
WRITING so they can voice their opinion correctly
SCIENCE this is necessary every day COOKING a MEAL is science
Why on earth would you strip our future by 17%?????????
Who cares what other School Districts are doing YOUR RESPONSIBILITY IS SIMI VALLEY UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT. Make the RIGHT choices for our CHILDREN!!!
Afraid to dip into the 5 million dollar reserve, isn’t this kind of situation what a reserve fund is for?????
Honestly, SIMI VALLEY UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD MEMBERS you need to think about what you are doing.
This is NOT LOS ANGELES. You don’t have to follow their footsteps.
