We are pleased to present the annual Simi Community Christmas featuring the International Creche Exhibit and Music Performances. The exhibit and performances will take place this year on December 4, 5, 6 & 8 th, 2009 from 5pm to 9pm each night.
The International Creche Exhibit & Music Performances will be held at: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Sinaloa Stake Center, 480 Sinaloa Road, Simi Valley, California 93065.
With the expansion of Simi Community Christmas to four days, we are adding a whole new dimension to our exciting event with the addition of mini concerts. These will run concurrently with the displays of the hundreds of Nativity scenes and our presentation of a living Nativity.
Admission is free and open to the public. Visitors may choose to browse through the exhibits while listening to the performances, or they may choose to take a seat in the chapel and have a front row seat for each of the mini concerts.
“Of all the Christmas decorations we so lovingly place around our homes, the one that is indispensable as it is central to the meaning of Christmas, is the Crèche or Nativity Scene. And at the time it is assembled by the family, the story of the Birth of Our Lord is retold every year. Designed to create an atmosphere where the true Christian meaning of Christmas is displayed with an international flare in a large scale spiritually moving event to kick off the holiday season.” “It affords all of us great satisfaction and joy to be able to present this exhibit as our Christmas gift to our community and to all those who attend” states Leila Jones and Marilyn Teerlink co-organizers of the Crèche and long time international collectors. There will be a “Live” Nativity performing every night. Each area of the displays will host guides who can tell you the stories of the different nativity scenes.
The exhibit has grown steadily during the many intervening years, not only in the number and variety of crèches, but also in community attendance and attention. We exhibit thousands of crèches from the very elaborate to simple child-like expressions and created from ceramic, porcelain, wood, chocolate, wood shavings, cookies, glass, rice, origami’s , bark, and many others. Anyone interesting in displaying their nativity scene in this display is urged to go to the website and download an application form and send it in as soon as possible.
The entertainment has been well thought out under the direction of Linda Smith, include soloists, both classical and contemporary, instrumentalists, school choirs and instrumental ensembles. The Simi Stake Choir will present a full Christmas concert on Sunday evening at 7:00pm under the directions of Cathy Cheney. Other exceptional performances by harpist Elaine Litster, Violinist, Jazz performer Jacquelyn Levy , including Valley View Middle school Chorale Ensemble and String Ensemble and Sinaloa Middle school Mixed Choir to the Royal High Chamber Singers, Bell Canto Hand Bell Ringers, Bill Boetticher, Gold Coast Pipe Band, many soloists, and two encore performances of the Simi Stake Childrens and Youth Choir.
Come one night or all nights and enjoy the holiday spirit. Everyone is welcomed. Easy accessible, handicapped parking available.
